RELAY MARATHON

In order to encourage a healthy lifestyle, the LHS Foundation supports every year the Milano City Marathon – in its Relay, “a staffetta” version – one of the most successful sporting events organized in the Lombardy capital.

The relay is not only an opportunity to test your sporting abilities, but it is also a moment of sharing and solidarity. Part of the registration fees for the marathon, along with the amounts raised from an online funding campaign, are actually being donated by the Foundation on a yearly basis to an association.

Each participant will receive an especially designed t-shirt for the race.

THE WELLNESS DECALOGUE

  • Do not smoke
  • Reduce your meal portions and avoid the fats
  • Eat more fruit, vegetables and fibers
  • Reduce the amount of salt in your dishes
  • Drink a lot of water throughout the day
  • Increase your physical activity
  • Avoid driving on small distances
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Get off the bus before your regular station
  • If possible, come to work by foot or by bicycle

MAINTAIN AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE

It is estimated that more than 35% of the European population remain seated for more than seven hours a day. The same goes for Italy where, among the working population, a sedentary lifestyle is widely spread: the employees stating that they have an active lifestyle are in minority. Scientific research has proven that having a sedentary lifestyle represents a risk factor. According to the definition of The Superior Health Institute, the risk factors are “those characteristics deriving from habits and incorrect lifestyles, environmental and biological factors, which, in a healthy individual increase the possibility of illness at a certain moment in time”.

A sedentary lifestyle is the result of rare physical activity, unhealthy food (overweight and obesity, high-calorie diet full of animal fat and read meat), smoking, alcohol, recognized as the main risk factors for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes type II, bone and articulation diseases such as osteoporosis and musculoskeletal disorders, oncological diseases such as lung cancer or colon tumor and psychological disease such as anxiety and depression.

Vice versa, it has been demonstrated that a healthy lifestyle is a good investment in terms of prevention.

In order to fully enjoy the benefits of movement, it is best that you do at least 30 minutes a day of light physical activity (ride a bike,  firm walking).
